WHAT IS HELPLINE?
Have you ever seen that commercial on TV where an elderly person is lying on the ground exclaiming, “Help! I’ve fallen and I can’t get up.”? The commercial goes on to promote an emergency response system for the home that will help an elderly or disabled person in these precarious situations. This is exactly what Rolling Start’s Helpline program is all about.
HELPLINEis an emergency response system that is designed to increase the safety and independence of our consumers at home. This program has been serving San Bernardino County for over 20 years and has continued to grow and thrive from funding provided through the Department of Aging and Adult Services.
The unit, which is about the size of an answering machine, hooks up to your phone and a medallion activation button is worn around the neck. In an emergency, the button is pressed and communication is established with an emergency base station where trained professionals will respond to the situation and dispatch help.
This program is great for those who do not have regular daily contact with anyone, have a life threatening illness or who are at risk of falls. Helpline consumers are able to remain in their own home and delay expensive assisted living situations. The unit is virtually maintenance free, easy to use and offers your family and friends peace of mind knowing that someone is there for you when they can’t be.
