Job Title: Accounting Clerk/Generalist (1.0 Full-time Equivalent)/Non Exempt

Hourly Pay Rate: $22 – $25 per hour

Reports To: Finance Manager

Location: San Bernardino

Rolling Start, Inc., Center for Independent Living (RSI) is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that provides advocacy and services to people with all types of disabilities. The mission of RSI is to educate and empower people with disabilities to achieve the independent life of their choice. We have been serving San Bernardino, Mono, and Inyo Counties for 47 years.

Position Summary:

The Accounting Clerk/Generalist supports day-to-day accounting operations with responsibility for proper maintenance of accounting records, accurate processing of financial transactions, and ensuring that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and adhere to grants management standards.

Additionally, the Accounting Clerk will process bi-monthly payroll utilizing ADP software, including benefits administration, new-hire onboarding, and other related functions.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable
• Full cycle accounts receivable, including preparation of monthly invoices and maintaining customer and vendor records

• Accounts payable including purchase orders and vendor records maintenance

• New vendor setup and maintenance

• Vendor statement reconciliation and resolve discrepancies

Banking and Reconciliation
• Bank reconciliations for depository accounts

• Reconcile balance sheet accounts; review for input accuracy and prepare monthly reports and journal entries as needed

• Deposit and cash reports

General Ledger and Record Keeping
• General ledger maintenance

• Input all grants and other donations into accounting system

• Maintain required business documents

• Maintain financial document retention files

Payroll Processing
• Prepare bi-monthly payroll in ADP software

• Process PARS and time reports for payroll

• Benefits administration and new-hire onboarding support

 

Required Qualifications

Education and Experience
• Minimum two (2) years of experience executing all competencies of accounting required

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred

• Experience with a nonprofit organization with fund accounting

• Experience with state and federal grant administration and developing grant budgets preferred

Technical Skills
• Minimum two (2) years of experience working with QuickBooks required

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word required

• Experience with ADP payroll software preferred

• Strong computer skills and ability to learn new software systems

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)

• Understanding of nonprofit fund accounting principles and practices

• Knowledge of grants management standards and compliance requirements

• Strong attention to detail and accuracy

• Ability to work in a fast-paced, detailed environment with minimal supervision

• Strong organizational and time management skills

• Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive financial information

Communication Skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Ability to communicate financial information clearly to staff and management

• Professional interpersonal skills

Other Preferred Qualifications
• Disability sensitivity and etiquette

• Knowledge of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Americans with Disabilities Act, Work Incentives Act, and IDEA preferred

Physical Demands
• Ability to sit for extended periods of time while working at a computer

• Ability to use hands and fingers to operate a computer, calculator, telephone, and other office equipment

• Ability to communicate effectively in person and by telephone

• Visual acuity to read financial documents and computer screens

• Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds occasionally

Work Environment
• Office environment with low to moderate noise levels

• Work is conducted entirely indoors

• Regular interaction with Finance Manager, staff, and vendors

• Work requires high level of concentration and attention to detail

• Fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines

 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Hourly pay rate: $22.00 – $25.00 per hour, commensurate with experience. This is a contract position. Benefits eligibility will be determined in accordance with organizational policies and contract terms.
