Benefits Application Assistance is where we enroll income qualified people who reside in our service area into programs; such as Cal Fresh- (AKA Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) (SNAP), Cal Works, Medical, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), and In Home Support Services (IHSS).
What is Cal Fresh? It is known federally as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), provides monthly food benefits to individuals and families with low-income and provides economic benefits to communities. Cal Fresh is the largest food program in California and an essential hunger safety net. These responsibilities also include creating and maintaining a strong partnership between food banks and other community organizations and agencies with a focus on people with disabilities and older adults in order to provide exceptional outreach and assistance to consumers in need of these benefits.
What is Cal Works? It is a public assistance program that provides cash aid and services to eligible families that have a child(ren) in the home. The program services all 58 counties in the state and is operated locally by county welfare departments.
What is Medi-cal? It is California’s Medicaid health care program This program pays for a variety of medical services for children and adults with limited income.
What is In Home Support Services (IHSS)? This program provides in-home assistance to eligible aged, blind, and disabled individuals as an alternative to out-of-home care and enables recipients to remain safely in their own homes.
What is Supplemental Security Income (SSI)? It is a federal program that provides monthly payments to adults and children who are blind or disable who have limited income and few resources.
