Assistive Technology, Voice Options, Digital Divide

Assistive technology (AT) is any item, piece of equipment, software program, or product system that is used to increase, maintain, or improve the ability to perform activities of daily living. Rolling Start provides a wide range of devices and/or resources to meet the needs of people with any disability. Schedule an appointment with our AT Specialist.

The Aging and Disability Resource Connection (ADRC) of San Bernardino County is a partnership between the Area Agency on Aging, the Independent Living Center (Rolling Start, Inc.), and community partners. The ADRC streamlines access to Long Term Services and Supports (LTSS), which are person-centered and consumer-controlled. The goal is to minimize confusion and enhance individual options to meet personal goals for independence.

Employment/Vocational Support

At Rolling Start, the Employment Services Coordinator helps an individual to:

  • Assist in finding work best suited for each individual
  • Work through problems that keep them from being successful
  • Utilize their existing skills to place them in a job within their community
  • Learn how to find a job
  • Learning how to maintain a job

As individuals develop a work plan with the Employment Specialist, we encourage them to make suggestions and changes as needed to encourage an independent living lifestyle. The more input we receive, the more we can customize the individual’s employment plan to fit their needs.

Our employment specialists work on a case-by-case basis in order to help an individual find employment and bridge the gap between employers and people with disabilities.

Other objectives they help with include:

  • Build Self-Confidence
  • Overcome Barriers to Employment
  • Write effective Resumes and Cover Letters
  • Develop Job Leads and Community Resources
